Rachelle H.
Private tutor in Berkeley, CA
Education
I graduated from the University of California, Davis in June of 2010. I received a BA in Spanish and a BA in Anthropology. My overall GPA was a 3.66.
Experience
I currently tutor for high school and college Spanish. I have experience in helping individuals plan and organize essays and editing essays for grammar, content and structure for Spanish and English writing at all levels, as well as for social sciences and research papers. Also, I have experience assisting classmates and other students with homework exercises in Spanish as well as helping them practice their conversational skills, vocabulary, grammar, and reading comprehension in Spanish. Through summer programs I have worked with elementary and middle school students with reading and math exercises, so I am comfortable tutoring elementary and some middle school math, as well as social studies. Also, I can help those who want to improve their English skills as a second language. In June of 2005, I took the SAT US History, Biology-E and Spanish subjects and scored 620, 620 and 630 on them respectively. Also in June of 2005 I scored a 25 on the ACT. In May of 2006, I took the AP Spanish Language Exam, receiving a score of 4. I want to be a tutor because I enjoy sharing my love of learning with students and seeing them reach their full academic potential. I want to encourage students in their educational experience to do well at what they are studying and to have confidence in their abilities. I especially am passionate about the Spanish language and culture and so I hope to help students improve their command of the language and better understand the culture as well. In the summer of 2008, I studied abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I took two classes conducted completely in Spanish. In the summer of 2013, I accompanied a team of nurses and nursing students as well as teachers to a rural village of western Guatemala and spent time with the children of all ages, speaking in Spanish, learning some of their native language, Quiche, and teaching them English.

Hobbies
I love to work one-on-one with individuals as well as in small groups, getting to know each person and in what areas he or she wants to grow. In college I led a small group through my Christian fellowship on campus, in which I facilitated study and discussion of Scripture. Some of my hobbies/interests include working with and riding horses, singing, playing piano and running.
