Private tutor in Berkeley, CA
Education
I graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Swarthmore College (top liberal arts college near Philadelphia, PA) with double major in Mathematics (with an emphasis on Statistics) and Economics. I earned a 3.99 GPA and received academic scholarship for being an outstanding student every year. I also had a year-long research experience in Statistics and am a published author. In terms of standardized tests, I scored an 800 on the SAT Math, Physics, and Chemistry subject tests, as well as an 800 and 750 on the SAT math and verbal respectively. On the Graduate Records Exam, I scored in the 97th percentile on math, 96th percentile on reading, and 93rd percentile on writing.
Experience
I have had a variety of teaching and volunteering experience during and after college. During college, I was a teaching assistant and ran weekly help sessions for Single Variable Calculus, Linear Algebra, Econometrics, and Syntax (a core linguistics course).I also tutored students on an individual basis in Real Analysis and Mandarin. As a senior in high school, I ran SAT sessions for juniors and mentored them through their college application process. Currently, I offer paid private tutoring lessons. As a Math tutor, my goal is to help my students achieve their goals. The reason I love teaching Math is because it is beautiful and elegant for its logic. Math is a language, where the rules are the definitions and theorems. Once you understand and master the rules, everybody can speak the language of Math. Additionally, the more of the language you know, the easier it is to learn more, and the more you enjoy speaking the language. The difficulty is that everybody learns differently - some people are visual learners, some people are verbal learners, some people are physical learners, etc. Therefore, it takes some initial guidance from a teacher for the student to get the momentum going. I have had some excellent (and patient!) Math teachers throughout the years, and I strive to provide that same guidance to my students. I earned an A+ in the following classes in college: Single Variable Calculus (Math 025), Real Analysis I (Math 063), Differential Equations (Math 044), Introduction to Econometrics (Econ 031), Data Structures and Algorithms (CPCS 035). I also earned an A in the following classes: Honors Linear Algebra (Math 028), Statistical Methods (Stat 011), Honors Several Variable Calculus (Math 035), Modern Algebra I (Math 067), Mathematical Statistics I (Stat 061), Data Analysis & Visualization (Stat 031), Introduction to Computer Science (CPSC 021). If you are looking for an experienced tutor with a personalized plan based on your learning style, look no further. My goal is to help you succeed and my unique teaching style will guarantee long-lasting results.
