EducationI hold a Ph.D. in Economics (in political economy) obtained Summa Cum Laude from the University of Paris, and a B.S. in Economics with a specialization in statistics, econometrics and mathematics (mainly, linear algebra and differential and integral calculus)
ExperienceA unique experience for you: tutored by a professor who has taught the courses you are taking
Over the past 15 years, I have taught 40+ courses (more than 1,500 students) in classrooms ranging from 25 to 200 students in statistics, econometrics, mathematics (algebra, precalculus, calculus, matrix equations, and linear programming) and micro- and macroeconomics. I offered these courses at the University of California at Berkeley, Saint Mary's College, San Francisco State University, the University of San Francisco, California State University at Hayward and Santa Clara University. I also have extensive experience tutoring my students during office hours, either one-on-one or in small groups.
My teaching/tutoring experience makes me uniquely qualified to tutor both college students and high school students taking AP(Advanced Placement) courses in Calculus, Statistics, Microeconomics and Macroeconomics. (These courses are similar to those I have taught in college, such as Econ1 or Stat20 at UC Berkeley).
I also have extensive research experience in political economy and statistical modeling. Some of my scholarly publications are available online.
My capacity for excellent teaching has been documented by numerous student evaluations and peer-reviews of my courses. Students' comments have evidenced my highly interactive teaching style and my deep concern about their achievements, as well as my ability to create an environment conducive to learning and to explain statistical, mathematical, and economic concepts very clearly and thoroughly:
"I liked the course after time. The atmosphere, students, and prof extremely conducive to learning a difficult subject" (U.C.B. Macroeconomics student); "Prof. B. is always willing to help and wants every student to do well;" She is approachable, very nice (Comment from many students); "Professor B. repeatedly asked class if everyone could understand her;" (U.C.B. stat students); The reader she wrote is very helpful (Comment from many students in all subjects I taught); "I learned a lot about statistics. It makes me think more rational about the world"; "She actually means it when she claims that every student can get an A if they do the work and understand" (UCB Microeconomics student); "Cal is a big school and people like you make it more humane" (Macroeconomics student); "Awesome class and a fun and engaging instructor" (SMC stat student); "I was very impressed by your knowledge and felt that your experience in economics made it a privilege to study under you. I believe you care deeply about the experience of your students, and I find that inspiring" (UCB Microeconomics student).
Many students' comments have also emphasized my tutoring skills during office hours:
"Without the help of Professor B., my chances of passing math would be dim. She is one of the most helpful professors I have had" (SMC Math student).
