Education

B.A. (Chem/Psych) - Berkeley M.S. (Organic Chem) - Stanford Ph.D. (Science Education, in progress) - Berkeley One focus of my Ph.D. project is improving the ways in which organic chemistry courses are taught, including developing lessons to explicitly teach problem solving strategies that are specific to organic chemistry. This has traditionally been seen as an auxiliary topic, despite the fact that such skills are necessary to do well on most problems sets and exams.

Experience

I am passionate about both teaching and chemistry, and I will work patiently with you to improve both your grades and your overall understanding of the subject matter. Over the past 15 years, I've worked as a lecturer (Chem 1B at Berkeley - Summer 2014), a T.A. (5 courses), and a private tutor (~60 students, mainly organic). I first started tutoring when I was in high school, working primarily for free to tutor my classmates in math and chemistry, which helped me to solidify my own understanding of the material. Since then, I have tutored dozens of students in AP chemistry, general chemistry, and organic chemistry courses. In addition to my one-on-one tutoring experience, I have also been a T.A. for one general chemistry course and four organic chemistry courses, receiving very positive student reviews in all cases. I also served as a lecturer for Chem 1B during the summer of 2014. Also, does University Tutor no longer post prices along with the profiles? I generally charge $60 an hour, but if we're seeing each other regularly and you're a broke student too, I can usually be talked down a bit.
