Private tutor in Berkeley, CA
Mills College - BA, Sociology/Anthropology
I've been tutoring and teaching for the past nine years. I spent the first years tutoring mostly math topics, and I started teaching French part-time at a language academy. For the past five years, I've been tutoring students in a wide range of topics. I grew up in Berlin, but I'm French-American. I attended Mills College to earn my bachelor's degree in anthropology and sociology. I always liked meeting students and getting to know them. I think I learn as much for my students as they learn for me. Every student has their own unique skill set, I enjoy the challenge of figuring these out and leveraging them for the student's success. In fact, I believe this is the key to the success of the students that I have worked with. If I can understand the student's strengths, then I know what to build on to help them become self-sufficient and self-motivated learners. Tutoring is challenging, but it's also very rewarding. My tutoring specialties are French and math, but I also enjoy writing and literature, and I'm a fluent German speaker. I've done a lot of informal editing for my friends. In my free time, I enjoy writing, reading, watching movies, skiing, and traveling. I also like conversations with friends, reading, and being outside in nice weather. I'm looking forward to helping students in whatever way I can to achieve success.
