Experience
I am a full-time teacher at a public high school teaching 9th grade math (geometry). I teach 5 sections of class with a total of over 130 students. Previously, I have tutored in 6th and 7th grade math classes. Specifically, I wrote supplementary lessons for students who were struggling and tutored them one-on-one or in small groups during class time and after school. Additionally, I have studied for and taken the MCAT to apply to medical school, so I also have a thorough understanding of the sciences (biology, physics, and chemistry). I scored in the 98th percentile and then realized that my true passion was in teaching. I want to tutor because I absolutely love teaching and helping students realize their own potential. Believing in oneself is the most powerful asset. My teaching style is joyful while also being extremely comprehensive. My strengths include breaking concepts down into easy-to-understand and memorable parts. I can come up with numerous methods to solve the same problem, which helps students who may not get it the first time. Students often tell me I'm the first person that has made it make sense to them. I focus both on procedural fluency as well as conceptual understanding. This way, students not only develop the skill of completing problems, but they also understand WHY it works.
